First Horizon building next to former Houston’s sold

The First Horizon Bank building at 4990 Poplar Ave., next to the former Houston’s restaurant, has been sold for $1 million.

Memphis-based First Horizon sold the 61,144-square-foot office building to 4990 Poplar LLC, according to the Shelby County Register of Deeds.

4990 Poplar LLC is composed of local investor Darrell Horn and Brown Gill.

Houston’s to be demolished

Gill, who is the vice president of development for Gill Properties, and Horn did not respond to a request for comment.

Built in 1962 on 1.3 acres, the building was appraised for $3.09 million this year, according to the Shelby County Assessor of Property.

Houston’s restaurant, which closed in December 2024 after more than 40 years of operation, was bought recently for $2.1 million.

Walker Huey, Gill’s brother-in-law and co-owner of LA Realty based in Milan, Tennessee, was listed as the manager of the company that bought the 7,500-square-foot building, according to the Register of Deeds.

Gill and Huey also recently bought the 191,300-square-foot Renaissance Center office building at 1715 Aaron Brenner Drive in East Memphis for $33.5 million.
