Houston’s Restaurant is set to be demolished.

Demolition of the 7,500-square-foot building at 5000 Poplar Ave. will be done by Michael Lenoid Fitch Jr. of Memphis, according to a permit filed with the Memphis and Shelby County Division of Planning and Development.

Razing will cost $54,000, according to the permit.

Former East Memphis Houston’s bought

The iconic restaurant closed in December 2024 after more than 40 years of operation. The company cited public safety and staffing issues as the reason for closure.

The building was bought for $2.1 million on Friday, Nov. 7, by 5000 Poplar LLC, a company managed by Walker Huey.

Huey could not be reached for comment.

Huey is the co-owner of LA Realty, based in Milan, Tennessee, a real estate firm focused on investments, brokerage and property management, according to Huey’s LinkedIn.
