Scooter’s Coffee is likely headed to Horn Lake after the city’s Planning Commission on Monday, June 24, approved a site plan for a new location of the chain that continues to add spots in the Mid-South.
According to the development plans, the drive-thru only coffee shop would occupy a spot where a diner stands at 2555 Goodman Road W. near the intersection with Hurt Road.
“Our position, and part of Scooter’s position, is we believe we can go to markets where there’s underpenetration of coffee,” said Fischer Van Handel, co-founder of Pyramid Coffee.
According to Van Handel, Pyramid has a 10-unit development agreement with Scooter’s, including locations in Millington and Covington.

“The South has a very low penetration of coffee,” Van Handel said. “Specifically, Mississippi and Tennessee are the least penetrated.” The parcel at Goodman and Hurt Road encompasses 0.45 acres, however this fits into the company’s franchising goals, which include small lots along fairly busy roads.
“Since Scooter’s Coffee drive-thru kiosks are small, the lot only needs to be between 2,000 and 5,000 square feet,” reads a message on the chain’s website intended for prospective franchisees.
There are currently two Scooter’s locations in Memphis, one at 3730 Riverdale Road and another at 1698 Poplar Ave., as well as the previously mentioned locations in Millington and Covington.
In March, the first Scooter’s in DeSoto County opened in Olive Branch at 6574 Cockrum Road. This store also became the first Scooter’s in Mississippi.
