Sunrise Memphis is bringing its breakfast and lunch fare to East Memphis
Sunrise Memphis is opening a second location. The popular breakfast spot will take over the building at 5469 Poplar Ave. that was home to Blue Plate Cafe.
Sunrise Memphis opened its doors in late 2017. The breakfast and lunch spot is located at 670 Jefferson Ave. on the edge of Downtown Memphis.
The breakfast menu includes standards such as pancakes, a country breakfast (called The Kitchen Sink), breakfast tacos, omelets and breakfast bowls. Boozy brunch cocktails are also on the menu.
Sunrise Memphis was the first venture for Across the Board Restaurant Group, a company formed by Central BBQ owners Roger Sapp and Craig Blondis with Ryan Trimm of Sweet Grass and Next Door. The group also owns Downtown steakhouse 117 Prime.
"We have been looking for an East Memphis location, but we couldn't find the right place to buy," said Sapp, adding they had just started looking into leasing a building when this opportunity came up. "This is a win-win for us."
Trimm said he is excited to be opening a location out East.
"About one year after we opened, Roger, Craig and I knew we had something unique and special. Expanding was a matter of time, never a debate," Trimm said. "We have been searching for a second location for Sunrise for over two years. Nothing seemed to fit just right. When we heard about the sad news of a Memphis staple, Blue Plate Cafe, closing, we really wanted to continue with great breakfast. We look forward to opening up our second home out East."
Trimm said the new restaurant's projected open date is in May. "We’ll see y’all soon!" he added.
Patty Bullock of Gill Properties was the broker for Across the Board. Dede Malmo of Malmo Business Real Estate represented the landlord.
